Massillon/Canton Ulster Project Announces Fundraiser
A fundraising concert for the Massillon/Canton Ulster project will be held April 3, 2008 at Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Massillon. Featured entertainment will be Maidens IV, a Celtic quartet from the Loudonville area.
The Ulster Project began in 1975 with a deceptively simple but brilliant premise—bring the Catholic and Protestant youth of Northern Ireland together in a safe, non-threatening atmosphere and let them get to know each other, far from the troubles that are a part of the fabric of their lives. Hundreds of years of sectarian violence and estrangement may not disappear overnight, but the longest journey begins with a single step. Marietta, Ohio’s The Green is Soon to be Seen: the 27th Annual Irish Gathering
This year’s Gathering will be held Sunday, March 9, 2008, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Lafayette Hotel Ballroom in Marietta. The buffet will be a “Taste of Old Ireland,” and guests will be toe tapping to the Celtic flavor and fervor of the Athens-based Boys of the Hock, with sound augmentation by Third Street Music of Marietta. To further capture the moment, the Athens Irish Dancers, under the direction of Ms. Sue Farley, and accompanied by the Boys of the Hock, will perform traditional Irish dances featuring the colorful and symbolic Irish dance costumes.

The Vermont Camper’s Cyclone is a group of fathers that take a large number of kids from the Saints Cyril & Methodius parish camping for nine days each year. Due to the number of one parent families in the parish and the lack of high finance, fund raisers are held to defray the cost, approximately $100 p/child. This group is in it’s 31st year and has taken as many as fifty kids at one time. It a unique experience for the children, and some who came as children are now bring their own. Besides experiencing new things, mountains, hiking, Ben & Jerry’s, the ocean, how other people live and much of this great country, they have a very deep spiritual experience. Toledo – 2008 AOH Commodore John Barry Medals Awarded
The John P. Kelly Division (Lucas County) Ancient Order of Hibernians awarded Mike Cassidy and Tom King the Commodore John Barry Medal. This medal is awarded to a Hibernian who has demonstrated a high level of commitment to the Order and his Division for a prolonged period of time. Mr. King has led the way in recruiting new members, selling program ads and promoting the annual Irish Night at the Mud Hen and the annual bus trip to the Notre Dame spring football game. Mr. Cassidy has led the way in obtaining donations and sponsorships from the area business community. He has developed a sponsorship package using the Division monthly newsletter and web site for the company’s promotion. He has started and developed the All Things Irish Art Fair, which showcases the talents of local students while promoting the Irish culture and heritage.
Prodigals Tracks Chosen for Major Motion Picture
Pride and Glory, an Irish cop movie starring Ed Norton and Colin Farrell
(http://www.prideandglorymovie.com) will feature two Prodigals tracks; The Bunch of Red Roses (from Needs Must) and The Open Reel (from Go On.). The latter track, is amazingly, placed at full running length. The movie was scheduled to be released March 14, 2008, but has been delayed due to Norton’s involvement in another movie, The Hulk. Producers do not want to release both near the same time, so it has been moved back to 2009. Congrats to The Prodigals!
