March Issue of Ohio Irish American News Coming

March & St. Patrick’s Issue Coming

March Issue Features!

For me, March feels like Thanksgiving. All the fantastic music and events, right from the very beginning of March through the whole month – The Chieftains March 1st, Mary Robinson March 3rd, The Irish Sopranos March 12th, Cathie Ryan March 15th & 16th, and our first Irish fest of 2008, the Lucas County Hibernian St. Patrick’s Day Festival, March 14th & 15th (Toledo). That isn’t even ½ of it! St. Patrick’s Day itself, with the parade and The Prodigals, Ronan Tynan on the 21st, carrying all the way to the end of the month, with Grada on the 27th – Ohio is filled with internationally recognized groups coming right to our door. We get spoiled with Ohio based groups Barleycorn, Brigid’s Cross, the newly revamped Brace Yourself Bridget, Callahan & O’Connor, Pitch the Peat, John Connolly & Company, Homeland, Dulahan and so much more – kickin’ it up all year long, but with a bit more frequency in March. Whether international or based right here in Ohio, Irish music is thriving and the opportunity to revel in our music is ample this St. Patrick’s season.

The other reason I feel so thankful is for our advertisers – some have been with us since the very 1st issue, and more than twenty have joined us for the first time this month. Please support them – and this is very important – let them know you saw their ad in the OhIAN.

No other nationality has a day in honor like the Irish, filled with parades, family, music and tradition. Last, and most importantly, I am grateful to St. Patrick, for bringing Catholicism to Ireland and his lasting legacy of forgiveness, tolerance and perseverance through the toughest of days. No matter how you choose to spend the day, remember the reason as we celebrate.

This issue is the largest we’ve yet produced, and is packed full of events, history, traditions and much more – hopefully, something for everyone. We hope you enjoy it – and if you feel so inclined, drop us a line – what do you like? What’s missing? What would you like to see more of?

March Features a Bridal Insert, Plus stories on: Knock, Owen’s Sports, Cathie Ryan, John T. McCormack, JFK in America, Arriving at the Port of New York, The Democratic Process, St. Patrick in the American Kitchen, Standing for Joe Byrne, Heart of the Issue, Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, Ohio St. Patrick’s Day Honorees, The Clinton Parade Pin, Ballymaloe Cookery School, The Irish of the Cuyahoga Valley, Independant Concert Halls Battle Hard Times, CD and Book Reviews and much more.

Hope you enjoy this, the largest issue we have ever produced, out March 1st. Have a most joyous, safe and music filled St. Patrick’s Season – for it’s not just a day anymore.
